Drawing is just one of the tools a contemporary designer has at their disposal. Designers from all disciplines have always used drawings, in conjunction with other collateral such as models and prototypes as a means of representing their ideas to clients, colleagues and as a method of generating new ideas or refining their designs. Drawings are a method of communicating complex ideas about form, space, size, volume, scale, texture, materials and processes. Most design disciplines have developed methods of drawing to assist in how they communicate their ideas.
The Drawing for Designers workshop is an introduction to the hand drawing skills that practising designers need to have at their disposal. The techniques introduced in the workshop introduce students to those used by professional designers of all disciplines who communicate their ideas through hand drawing.
Participants in the Drawing for Designers workshop will have the opportunity to:
- Be introduced to techniques of visualising three-dimensional ideas through drawing.
- Be introduced to the fundamental principles of perspective drawing techniques to create new designs.
- Understand how to communicate new designs to others by generating appropriate illustrations
- Understand how to use rendering techniques to help communicate the form of new three-dimensional designs.
