Design Thinking and Co-Design workshops

Match Studio offers a range of one-off and multi-session workshops for business, government and community organisations. The workshops build awareness, skills and capacity for ‘user-centred design’, ‘co-design’ and ‘design thinking’ approaches. Participants then apply these learnings to stimulate innovation in their organisations and enhance the way they think. The workshops provide a cost-effective engagement with the University’s diverse knowledge resource.

Design Thinking in Business Innovation

Workshop Purpose

Teachers will engage in two half-day hands-on workshops focused on design thinking and the Business Model Canvas.

The workshop will be delivered to teachers seeking professional learning in design thinking competency and/or support for the delivery of design thinking methodology. The workshop will be tailored to the participating teachers to equip them with a broad range of tools to deliver and co-design problem-based learning projects, incorporate human-centred design concepts, and the various aspects of the Business Model Canvas.

Workshop Aim

The workshop will enable the participating teachers to enhance their knowledge through the practice and application of design thinking. The learning outcomes will be:

  • Knowledge of strategic planning and the Business Model Canvas
  • The fundamentals of design and systems thinking as applied to innovation for a Start-up BusinessExisting Business and Social Enterprise
  • Prepare for and deliver a successful pitch – regardless of leadership and confidence capabilities
  • Apply design thinking in multi-party negotiations for current and new product/service development
  • Acknowledge and address risk within project delivery
  • Use a design thinking approach to find solutions to execute ideas and address challenges

To date, teachers from more than 140 secondary schools in South Australia have attended the Workshop.  The Workshop was designed to provide the participating teachers with exercises and challenges that could be delivered directly to their students. This had a two-fold impact. Firstly, to provide teaching tools and resources; and secondly to learn from a student’s perspective.  From the teacher feedback, this proved effective, as expressed in the following survey analysis:

  • 100% agree (67% strongly agreed) there is an immediate application of learning.
  • 91% agree (58% strongly agreed) that their colleagues would gain value from the learning.
  • 91% agree (58% who agreed) that they would recommend the workshop.
